MY BOOK BEGINNING
"We should probably search together," my friend David suggested, "until we have a reason not to."
-- Trove: A Woman's Search for Truth and Buried Treasure by Sandra A. Miller. This memoir starts with an armchair treasure hunt for gold coins buried in New York City, but like all good memoirs, delves much deeper.
Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.
EARLY BIRDS & SLOWPOKES: This weekly post goes up Thursday evening for those who like to get their posts up and linked early on. But feel free to add a link all week.
SOCIAL MEDIA: If you are on Twitter, Instagram, or other social media, please post using the hash tag #BookBeginnings. I try to follow all Book Beginnings participants on whatever interweb sites you are on, so please let me know if I have missed any and I will catch up.
YOUR BOOK BEGINNING
TIE IN: The Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice is a natural tie in with this event and there is a lot of cross over, so many people combine the two. The idea is to post a teaser from page 56 of the book you are reading and share a link to your post. Find details and the Linky for your Friday 56 post on Freda’s Voice.
MY FRIDAY 56
I stuffed the photos back in the envelope then placed it carefully in the trunk. That’s when I saw something else tucked into the far corner and lifted out a slender book with a blue cardboard cover: All Services Polyglot Diary.
Intriguing!
ReplyDeleteI love when a memoir has such a strong story you forget it's a memoir. Sounds like a good read!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun read!
ReplyDeleteOOh! Why would they have a reason not to?? I'm curious!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!!
I like that opening line. It is a sign of good friends. My Friday quotes for PATRON SAINTS OF NOTHING
ReplyDeleteI really like both snippets. Sounds like a good one! I added you to the Linky. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a book that would pull me right in.
ReplyDeleteHope you are finding the memoir interesting.
ReplyDeleteOh my, this sounds wonderful for so many reasons. I can't believe it is a memoir.
ReplyDeleteThe title and the 2 excerpts are intriguing! I've posted the first lines from "The Goshawk" by T. H. White.
