MY BOOK BEGINNING
When Augustus came out on the porch the blue pigs were eating a rattlesnake -- not a very big one.
-- Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry. That;s one of my favorite opening sentences! This Pulitzer Prize winner has been on my TBR shelf for too long. I am excited to finally read it.
Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.
EARLY BIRDS & SLOWPOKES: This weekly post goes up Thursday evening for those who like to get their posts up and linked early on. But feel free to add a link all week.
SOCIAL MEDIA: If you are on Twitter, Instagram, or other social media, please post using the hash tag #BookBeginnings. I try to follow all Book Beginnings participants on whatever interweb sites you are on, so please let me know if I have missed any and I will catch up.
YOUR BOOK BEGINNING
TIE IN: The Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice is a natural tie in with this event and there is a lot of cross over, so many people combine the two. The idea is to post a teaser from page 56 of the book you are reading and share a link to your post. Find details and the Linky for your Friday 56 post on Freda’s Voice.
MY FRIDAY 56
"I don't think you could hit that bucket if you was sitting on it," Augustus said. "I've seen you shoot."
Page 56 barely makes a dent in this 945-page book!
Ha! That is a great opening sentence!
ReplyDeleteI have this book sitting on my TBR pile, too. Now I am thrilled to get to it. Hopefully soon.
ReplyDeleteWhat an opening scene!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, well, I can guess why, I first thought of 'The lonesome pine...'
Have a lovely weekend, Gilion, I am sure you'll need the rest you work so hard! x
I haven't read this one but I did just recently watch the miniseries.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this author in years! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMy father LOVED these books.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Happy First. Day of Summer, I can't wait to read how you feel about The Lonesome Dove.
ReplyDeleteI have started a big book too. It's Roses by Leila Meacham.
Your selection is such a classic read. I hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good one. I remember the show, but never read the book. I added you to the Linky. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteGreat beginning sentence. I didn't know the book was so long. 56 is just at the beginning. This week I am featuring Call It What You Want by Brigid Kemmerer. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteLonesome Dove is a great choice for a summer weekend. Hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteBlue pigs! That made me wonder what's going on.
