MY BOOK BEGINNING
The sound of the squeaking front door makes me turn.
-- I Know Now: A Woman's Healing: Violence to Victory, Trauma to Truth by Cinda Stevens Lonsway. This memoir tells how the author survived a violent attack at age 19, struggled to heal from that trauma when she became a mother, and how she finally found what she calls "sacred insight."
Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

Given that snippet you shared from the premise, I can quite see why the opening line you featured is so strong and poignant.
ReplyDeleteI think that under similar circumstances, I would be forever looking over my shoulder at the slightest noise and not wanting anyone too close to me, even in a public space, even though that might not have been the scene or circumstances of the original incident.
I think my confidence would be shaken forever.
I love the cover art Cinda has chosen and I hope that it is not too emotional a read for you :)

ReplyDeleteThere is no right age for a woman to become violated. Still, nineteen years old does seem like a young age.
ReplyDeleteI know the author, and have read this book from its early stages until the final version. It is an amazing story of transformation and healing. I highly recommend it.
