MY BOOK BEGINNING
When you inform your friends and relatives that you have left your stable job as a journalist to stay home and taste wines, you will begin to get concerned phone calls.
-- Cork Dork: A Wine-Fueled Adventure Among the Obsessive Sommeliers, Big Bottle Hunters, and Rogue Scientists Who Taught Me to Live for Taste by Bianca Bosker.
My book club is reading this and we plan to have our own "blind tasting," which will be a total joke.
Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.
EARLY BIRDS & SLOWPOKES: This weekly post goes up Thursday evening for those who like to get their posts up and linked early on. But feel free to add a link all week.
FACEBOOK: Rose City Reader has a Facebook page where I post about new and favorite books, book events, and other bookish tidbits, as well as link to blog posts. I'd love a "Like" on the page! You can go to the page here to Like it. I am happy to Like you back if you have a blog or professional Facebook page, so please leave a comment with a link and I will find you.
TWITTER, ETC: If you are on Twitter, Instagram, Google+, or other social media, please post using the hash tag #BookBeginnings. I try to follow all Book Beginnings participants on whatever interweb sites you are on, so please let me know if I have missed any and I will catch up.
TIE IN: The Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice is a natural tie in with this event and there is a lot of cross over, so many people combine the two. The idea is to post a teaser from page 56 of the book you are reading and share a link to your post. Find details and the Linky for your Friday 56 post on Freda’s Voice.
YOUR BOOK BEGINNING
Ha! Sounds like a fun read, and I hope you enjoy your wine tasting.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth! Lol...good choice
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun!
ReplyDeleteNow that sounds like a great idea for Book Club! Enjoy the book.
ReplyDeleteHi Gilion,
ReplyDeleteThis has to be the perfect book (and cover art) for a book club discussion, although with all that 'tasting' going on, I wonder just how objective you will all be with your comments!!
After my vegan nephew informing me that wine contained fish gut to give it its shine, I must admit to being slightly put off cracking open that next bottle. But when we do drink (which is very seldom), our tipple of choice is generally a nice white dry Chardonnay.
Cheers and enjoy the whole experience of this book :)
Yvonne
Sounds like a fun book! I hope that you enjoy it. :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that cover. I smile whenever I see that cover, but I haven't read the book.
ReplyDeleteAnd speaking of covers check out the question at the BOOK BLOGGER HOP this week if you like.
Bloggers answer this question: Have you ever bought a book because you liked its cover art?
Add another fun meme to your Fridays if you like, and join in the fun.
Happy Reading!!
I saw this one on NetGalley, I believe, and almost requested it. But I don't drink wine so I thought it would be lost on me. Love the BB. I would love for you and your readers to check out mine . . . http://tinyurl.com/LisaKsBookReviewsPATPD
