Book Beginning: Make Me by Lee Child

THANKS FOR JOINING ME ON FRIDAYS FOR BOOK BEGINNING FUN!

Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

EARLY BIRDS & SLOWPOKES: This weekly post goes up Thursday evening for those who like to get their posts up and linked early on. But feel free to add a link all week.

FACEBOOK: Rose City Reader has a Facebook page where I post about new and favorite books, book events, and other bookish tidbits, as well as link to blog posts. I'd love a "Like" on the page! You can go to the page here to Like it. I am happy to Like you back if you have a blog or professional Facebook page, so please leave a comment with a link and I will find you.

TWITTER, ETC: If you are on Twitter, Instagram, Google+, or other social media, please post using the hash tag #BookBeginnings. I try to follow all Book  Beginnings participants on whatever interweb sites you are on, so please let me know if I have missed any and I will catch up.

TIE IN: The Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice is a natural tie in with this event and there is a lot of cross over, so many people combine the two. The idea is to post a teaser from page 56 of the book you are reading and share a link to your post. Find details and the Linky for your Friday 56 post on Freda’s Voice.

YOUR BOOK BEGINNING

MY BOOK BEGINNING

Moving a guy as big as Keever wasn't easy. It was like trying to wrestle a king-sized mattress off a waterbed.

Make Me by Lee Child. This is the 20th Jack Reacher book.

I'm a big fan and I'm enjoying this one enough. But I'm two-thirds of the way through and I'm still waiting for the plot to gel. And I'm getting a little tired of Reacher books that start with him in a two-track town in the middle of Nebraska. Make Me came out in 2015 and I am only reading it now because, based on the description, I was sure I had read it already.

  2. I read the first book in th4e Jack Reacher series early this year, I think. The book grew on me, but I'm not sure if I'll invest the time to read the rest of this series. There are so many books and they aren't short books, either.

  4. I used to have a waterbed so I know how difficult it is to move someone who's on one...good beginning...haven't read anything by this author yet

  6. I enjoyed the series for years (though not the movie) but somewhere along the way I lost interest. I suppose my prediction that Jack would work things out and the bad guys die horribly came true too often that is in every book I read. Perhaps I should try again. They were addictive.

  7. I haven't read any of Lee Child's books! There are so many - is it best to read them in order, or not?

  8. I don't believe I've read anything by this author before, but I might have heard about this book. It seems interesting. Thanks for mentioning it. :-)

  9. I love the title coupled with the author's name. I can picture a child saying "Make me!" very easily. I know as a child, it was a regular part of my vocabulary. haha

David and I have had the experience of moving a king-size waterbed before. We were helping a friend move. The waterbed was upstairs in a townhouse apartment. That was not fun nor is it on our list of things to do ever again. :)

    Have a blessed Easter weekend!

  11. I never started this series--and with so many books already published, I doubt I will. Hope it gets more enjoyable for you.

  16. I sometimes have problems with series that have run on a long time. It starts to feel like the author is reaching to get everything to make sense of it's just same old same old. I do want to try the series. I've enjoyed the movie but have never read the books.

  17. I read this book paired with Reacher Said Nothing: Lee Child and the Making of Make Me by Andy Martin. Although not the best or most insightful analysis, it did give some fascinating insights into the book and Lee Child's writing process.

I also saw an interview where Lee Child said something to the effect that he didn't want Reacher to change too much. It is difficult to incorporate any sort of character arc over a series of twenty books or whatever.

    Hope you enjoy it.

  18. Love the description in the opening! It's been a while since I read a book by this author. This sounds like a good one.
Thank you for hosting Book Beginnings.

  19. I read the 1st 3 or 4 and then stopped. But for no good reason. I think I got wrapped up with local authors and had to make cuts.
