No recipe for hygge is complete without candles. When Danes are asked what thy most associate with hygge an overwhelming 85 percent will mention candles.
-- The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living by Meik Wiking. I’m jumping on the hygge bandwagon with both feet.
Portland as a very hygge city. Like Denmark, it rains a lot, so we go in for cozy comforts in a big way. We love our coffee, independent bookstores, and local bakeries. We also have many other hygglig characteristics -- an obsession with handcrafted everything (often parodied as "Portlandia"), a casual style, and a love of nature.
Thanks for showcasing this book. I've been interested in knowing more about it.

ReplyDelete"Hygge" - A great sounding new word for me to check out, although I get the general drift - and cozy would suit me right down to the ground today as I am not feeling the best.
ReplyDeleteThe handcrafted market is beginning to plateau in many parts of the UK, as these items are generall quite highly priced and I think everyone is beginning to feel the financial pinch a little.
There are still plenty of craft markets being organised, but when you chat to some of the stall holders they will all have the same story of very low sales, although loads of people stopping by to look.
