Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.
EARLY BIRDS & SLOWPOKES: This weekly post goes up Thursday evening for those who like to get their posts up and linked early on. But feel free to add a link all week.
FACEBOOK: Rose City Reader has a Facebook page where I post about new and favorite books, book events, and other bookish tidbits, as well as link to blog posts. I'd love a "Like" on the page! You can go to the page here to Like it. I am happy to Like you back if you have a blog or professional Facebook page, so please leave a comment with a link and I will find you.
TWITTER, ETC: If you are on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Google+, or other social media, please post using the hash tag #BookBeginnings. I try to follow all Book Beginnings participants on whatever interweb sites you are on, so please let me know if I have missed any and I will catch up.
TIE IN: The Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice is a natural tie in with this event and there is a lot of cross over, so many people combine the two. The idea is to post a teaser from page 56 of the book you are reading and share a link to your post. Find details and the Linky for your Friday 56 post on Freda’s Voice.
YOUR BOOK BEGINNING
MY BOOK BEGINNING
"How far away is it?"
-- The Unicorn by Iris Murdoch. Well, that's a nothing beginning that could go anywhere. But a good one for a book I started on a plane. This is one of the books for my 2X17 Challenge.
I finally got on Instagram, which immediately became my favorite #timesuck. And I see that several Book Beginners have been posting there, some of you with very clever visual interpretations. I'll try to do a better job of following along. Thanks for the inspiration!
I have heard of this book before, but just never got around to reading it. Thanks for mentioning the book. :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day, and enjoy your book.
Thanks for coming by my blog to let me know the post for Book Beginnings was up.

My Book Beginnings
No worries! Happy birthday! Your book looks tempting.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday and thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteI've been resisting Instagram because I'm afraid of just what you said -- it could become a time suck! I don't need another one.
Hi Gilion,
ReplyDeleteYou are forgiven, especially as it is your birthday. I hope that you have something lovely planned for this evening and the weekend :)
I still haven't worked out how to add pictures to a Twitter post yet and hubbie is definitely the photographer in the family. Still, never say never, I might get there one of these days and I probably shan't take things quite as seriously as he does.
Thanks for hosting, although I'm not sure that your book is one for me this time :)
Yvonne
Haoot Birthday, Gilion!
ReplyDeleteI think I've read The Unicorn but it was a long time ago and I can't remember anything about it. Maybe I haven;t read it ... I like Iris Murdoch's books though, so I'll check it out and hope my library has a copy.
The delay was no problem for me. I was already running behind.
ReplyDeleteI looked up a summary of The Unicorn. It seems the plot is much more complex than the first line would suggest.
Happy birthday!!! I was also running late today but because of laziness -- your birthday is a much better reason!
