FACEBOOK: Rose City Reader has a Facebook page where I post about new and favorite books, book events, and other bookish tidbits, as well as link to blog posts. I'd love a "Like" on the page! You can go to the page here to Like it. I am happy to Like you back if you have a blog or professional Facebook page, so please leave a comment with a link and I will find you.
TWITTER, ETC: If you are on Twitter, Google+, or other social media, please post using the hash tag #BookBeginnings. I try to follow all Book Beginnings participants on whatever interweb sites you are on, so please let me know if I have missed any and I will catch up.
TIE IN: The Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice is a natural tie in with this event and there is a lot of cross over, so many people combine the two. The idea is to post a teaser from page 56 of the book you are reading and share a link to your post. Find details and the Linky for your Friday 56 post on Freda’s Voice.
YOUR BOOK BEGINNING
MY BOOK BEGINNING
It's difficult to enjoy oneself or anything else when it's 102 degrees, but I was giving it my best shot.-- The Man Who Wasn’t There by Judy Nedry. A perfect summer read, available in paperback and kindle. That's an opening sentence any Oregonian can relate to!
The Man Who Wasn't There is the latest in Judy Nedry's Emma Golden mystery series, featuring an Oregon wine country amateur sleuth. Here, when one of Oregon's founding winemakers mysteriously dies at the International Pinot Noir Celebration he established, Emma is pulled into the mystery. What fun!
Read my review of The Difficult Sister, the second book in the series, here. Read Judy Nedry's author interview, here.
That is extremely warm. The kind of day where you don't dare move. Sounds like a good read.
ReplyDeleteThat's not too too bad ... you just need a cool drink and sit in the shade ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat beginning !
ReplyDeleteand a reminder of time in AZ - happy for AC and cool drinks as Aloi has said ;)
A mystery fan, the storyline is enticing...
I'd say that works for Ohio, too, just add in some kind some kind of wacky weather change. Something along the lines of morning snowfall turning into a balmy Spring afternoon....
ReplyDeleteThat's a great opening sentence. I was born and raised in Texas, plus I spent quite a few years in Florida, so I can definitely relate. I'd keep reading to find out where this story is set and why the character isn't inside a nice air-conditioned building.
ReplyDeleteHi Gilion,
ReplyDeleteHappily, we don't get temperatures quite like that, here in the UK.
If we holiday abroad, it is generally somewhere with a much more temperate climate and when we have visited Florida, we have always travelled in December, when it is much more like a typical British summer :)
It sounds from your first lines, that either this person isn't used to such extreme temperatures, or the heat is particularly hot for this location.
I did cheat a little and checked out the synopsis - One of my favourite genres, so would have to be a keeper for me!
Thanks for sharing your lines and hosting BBOF :)

102. I would be very unpleasant to just about everyone. I don't do well in heat. I think we are the say in Western Washington.
ReplyDeleteI would love to visit Oregon one day. I'll bet it's beautiful country. I like to read about winemakers. Have fun with this sleuth.
ReplyDelete102 degrees in Oregon? I like the setting.
ReplyDelete102 is definitely a bit too warm to enjoy anything outside! I haven't read this series but I'd like too.
ReplyDeleteI love a good mystery, I need to check this one out. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of the heat, either, so I identify with this. sounds like it could be a good read.
ReplyDeleteHi Gillon,
ReplyDeleteSound like an interesting book. I'll have to check it out. Have a great day!
Good morning!!! Sounds like you have a great mystery to read. I much prefer the 102 degree dry heart! Thanks so much for sharing & hosting. Have a great day!!!
ReplyDelete102 degrees is quite warm, but on those freezing winter days it would be great. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing....sounds good.
Have a wonderful weekend.
