You can go to the page here to Like it. I am happy to Like you back if you have a blog or professional Facebook page, so please leave a comment with a link and I will find you.
TWITTER, ETC: If you are on Twitter, Google+, or other social media, please post using the hash tag #BookBeginnings. I try to follow all Book Beginnings participants on whatever interweb sites you are on, so please let me know if I have missed any and I will catch up.
TIE IN: The Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice is a natural tie in with this event and there is a lot of cross over, so many people combine the two. The idea is to post a teaser from page 56 of the book you are reading and share a link to your post. Find details and the Linky for your Friday 56 post on Freda’s Voice.
YOUR BOOK BEGINNING
MY BOOK BEGINNING
Sunderson must have been about ten and was burning up with fever from strep throat and still had to go to Sunday morning Lutheran service. His mother had her antennae out for malefactors and only Bernise who had broken her leg tobogganing had recently succeeded in avoiding church.
The Big Seven: A Faux Mystery by Jim Harrison. The opening passage is the protagonist's memory of a childhood sermon that introduces the theme of the seven deadly sins -- the "big seven" of the title.
Harrison introduced Sunderson, a retired Michigan State Police detective, in his earlier "faux mystery," The Great Leader.
Sounds fascinating!
ReplyDeleteSounds interesting. Maybe I'm asking a stupid question, but what is a "faux mystery"? Here's my Friday post. Happy reading!
ReplyDeletesounds like a good story. Interesting start.
ReplyDeleteSounds interesting, but like Kim said - what's a "faux mystery"? Not really a mystery at all? :)
ReplyDeleteI love this beginning! This sounds like a delightful story.
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting Book Beginnings on Friday.
Hi Gilion,
ReplyDeleteI too, searched for the 'faux mystery' phrase, however all that came up was this particular author's name and his books, so I wonder if this is a coined phrase which is for some reason unique to him?
Jim Harrison certainly sounds like a very colourful character and although your opening lines are very intriguing, probably isn't an author for me.
The name however, rang big bells for some reason and on further research, I realised that my dad had read his book 'A Good Day To Die', which he has passed on to me and which must be hidden away on my shelves somewhere. I might therefore be tempted to search it out and try reading it sooner rather than later!
Thanks for sharing and hosting BBOF. Have a good weekend :)
Yvonne
I would like to read this book, though the opening is a bit daunting.
ReplyDeleteI keep meaning to give this series a shot and still have yet to do so. Some day!
ReplyDeleteI like the cover and the opening didn't do a lot for me. You explanation of the itle got my attention, though. :-)
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy your read. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds good.
ReplyDeleteLike Yvonne, I would like to know the definition of faux mystery. :)
Great cover.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Sitting through anything when you're burning up with fever just sounds so awful! I'm curious about what exactly a faux mystery turns out to be. Hope you enjoy the read!
ReplyDeleteHow terrible to be forced to attend church when you're burning up with fever.
