YOUR BOOK BEGINNING

MY BOOK BEGINNING

It was a solecism of the very worst kind.  He sneezed loudly, wetly, and quite unforgivably into the woman's face.

– A Great Deliverance by Elizabeth George. This is the first mystery in her series featuring Inspector Linley.

I admit I had to look up "solecism" because I had only ever heard the term used to describe a grammatical mistake. I learned that solecism can also mean a breach of good manners.

I collected several Inspector Linley books from garage and library sales this summer, based on nothing more than watching one Linley BBC episode and hearing good things. I'm excited to finally start the books!

  2. I had to look up the word too! Ha ha :D Oh and for the record, I love British TV. Still, what an awful thing to do! I hope it wasn't intentional. Makes me think of all the viral disease out there, I'm sure we're all trying to avoid :/

  3. Hi Gilion,

I am so pleased that you looked up solecism, it saved me th trouble, as I too, didn't know this meaning for it.

I have only read a couple of Elizabeth George books, although I think I have managed to catch just about all the TV episodes of Lynley, by looking out for the re-runs over the years.

Who could resist Nathaniel Parker as the delicious Earl Thomas Lynley and more lately as King Henry VIII in The Royal Shakespeare Company production of Hilary Mantel's 'Wolf Hall'.

There are some very ill mannered people about these days and working in retail I come across quite a fair selection of them. People sneezing or coughing without taking some kind of precaution, is totally unacceptable and unforgivable.

Thanks for reminding me of this excellent series of stories, I may need to read a few more now.

Thanks for hosting and enjoy your book,

    Yvonne.
