The menus for the week were posted every Monday. Lots of people, the clientele still being largely local, just strolled by, took a look at the hand-printed bill of fare in the picture frame on the front of the building, perhaps came in and discussed it with Alice or a cook, and made their plans accordingly..

ReplyDeleteI am not really a great non fiction, or memoir reader, however this does sound good. Alice sounds like a character with an indomitable spirit and full of grit and determination to have things done her way.
I can just imagine, after reading your teaser lines, being able to read a menu, then go in and discuss it with the owner or the head chef .... NOT!!
That must surely be the sign of a supremely confident person and one who truly does put her customers first!
