MY BOOK BEGINNING
A Sherpa named Chhiring Dorje dangled off an axe hacked into a wall of ice.-- Buried in the Sky: The Extraordinary Story of the Sherpa Climbers on K2's Deadliest Day by Peter Zuckerman and Amanda Padoan.
This is a terrific book! The kind that makes you gasp out loud and stay up late to finish it. I finally got my turn after Hubby snatched it away from me the minute it came out of the envelope. It is so right up his alley.
Hi Gilion,
ReplyDeleteGreat first lines, you just know this is going to be a real page-turner.
It probably isn't something I would personally read, however as you found, it would probably be something that my husband would read and enjoy.
Thanks for hosting and glad you enjoyed the book so much.
Yvonne
A literal cliff hanger! Sounds like an interesting read.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a real page turner, one that both I and my hubby would love. This one's going on the top of my wishlist.
ReplyDeleteOoooooh sounds good! I have read Jon Krakauer's Into Thin Air multiple times and this one sounds similar. It is going to the head of the queue.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great start! I'll look forward to your review.
ReplyDeleteAhhh climbing books! Into Thin Air is still my favorite Krakauer; and it's a bigger investment, but I do recommend Into the Silence by Wade Davis (I wrote a review here).
ReplyDeleteIt sounds amazing! Really intriguing beginning. Thanks for hosting!

That is a great first line! Definitely makes you want to read more.
ReplyDeleteWow, suspenseful! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt looks fascinating - and dramatic.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know this book, thanks for sharing and hosting BBF :D
ReplyDeletesrivalli beat me to my comment! But seriously, now I want to know why the sherpa is hanging on the side of the cliff (and how to pronounce his name, by the way)....
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good beginning. I'm glad its a terrific read.
ReplyDeleteNothing scares me more than a mountain climbing story. Krakauer's Into the Wild has some frightening mountain climbing passages. And the movie Vertical Limit has a really intense opening scene. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteYou read such interesting books and such variety. This one sounds very good. I missed Book Beginnings last week. Just could not get to it on Friday. And did not even have time to look at all the other posts. Glad to be back.
ReplyDeleteThe start is a attention getter and sounds like the book kept it up.
ReplyDeleteThat title is a real grabber. I'd take it off the shelf to investigate further!
ReplyDelete:)
Now that sounds like an exciting read!
