Opening Sentence of the Day: Maps and Shadows

"Everyone has a story."

Maps and Shadows by Krysia Jopek.  This is a novel based on the WWII experiences of the author's relatives, who were sent to Siberia from Poland during the war, then spent years drifting around the Middle East and Africa before reuniting and moving to America.

Everyone may have a story, but most are not likely to be as fascinating as this one.

  1. I have been reading quite a bit of WWI and II background stories and like them very much because of so much history, human interest and the need to survive shown in these books. This will be another addition to the pile.

  2. I'm currently reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society which is about one of the German occupied channel islands. This sounds like another interesting story.
