Teaser Tuesday: Small Island

"The English woman was still looking at me when I entered the hallway. Perusing me in a fashion as if I was not there to see her stares."

--  Small Island by Andrea Levy.

Although I started Small Island last week, I have only read a few pages because I got sucked back into Up in the Old Hotel.

But, since I left Up in the Old Hotel in the locker room at the gym (I've lost track of how many times I have done this -- I need to tattoo a reminder on the back of my hand), I have turned to Small Island for my teaser. From the first chapter, when Hortense first arrives in London.

Teaser Tuesdays is hosted by Should Be Reading, where you can find the official rules for this weekly event.

  1. I don't know your age, but, when I do something like misplacing something, I call it a Senior Moment! Is Small Island a mystery?

  2. Ann -- At 44, I hope my "senior moments" haven't started already!

Small Island isn't a mystery -- it's about immigrants from Jamaica to England after WWII. So far, it is funny and sweet.

  3. I was glad to get a little more info in your comment. I hope the book's good--and I hope you get your other one back! That hotel book sounds like so much fun!

    My teaser is here.

  5. Wonder why she was staring. Sounds intriguing. This one has gotten very mixed reviews - hope you enjoy it. Good teaser!

    Here’s my teaser from Damaged.

  6. LKT -- Unfortunately, it looks like my Hotel book has gone missing. This will be about the 4th or 5th book that I left at the gym that someone walked away with instead of turning in to the lost and found. You would think I would have an extra incentive to REMEMBER to take my book with me!

    Thanks for leaving your link.

Marce -- I really loved the Hotel book! I am going to have to buy another so I can finish it. Thanks for the link!

Joy -- I think she was staring because she had never seen a black woman before. That's what I picked up form the few pages I've read so far. I'll come visit.
