Opening Sentence of the Day: The Well and the Mine
"After she threw the baby in, nobody believed me for the longest time."
-- The Well and the Mine by Gin Phillips (Discover Award winner; introduction by Fannie Flagg; published by the super cool Hawthorne Books & Literary Arts).
I wish I could skip work and read this straight through. But I have to be in court this morning, so no such luck.

Book Beginnings on Fridays is a new "opening sentence" event hosted by Becky at Page Turners.

I bought this book not long ago - I am planning to read it in July for the social justice challenge when the theme is poverty. But, I am looking forward to reading your review of it...it has gotten some good "press"...
ReplyDeleteWhat an attention grabbing first sentence! I went to Goodreads to see what this book was about and it sounds amazing.
ReplyDeleteHere are my Book Beginnings.
Adding this to my list of stuff to look for at the library!
ReplyDeleteWendy -- I think you will enjoy reading it. I am about a third of the way through it and find shades of Erskin Caldwell and Harper Lee.
ReplyDeleteChristina -- It is really well-written in the particular way I prefer where you don't notice the writing. It is so simple and straightforward that it is more like watching than reading. Thanks for the link!
Caitlin - I predict you will love it.
Ohhh - I love the Discover Award. Good pick! Hopefully you'll have a great weekend of reading.
