Teaser Tuesday: The New Confessions
"From time to time, however, they break out -- lava cracking the pumice -- and dominate with the same rampaging potency. What is lust, adult lust, after all, but the desire to recapture the heady sensations of adolescent sexuality?"
-- The New Confessions by William Boyd.
This is a great book -- funny and full of life. It is entertaining from the get go as the hero describes his Scottish upbringing, WWI experiences, and nascent film career in post-war Berlin. At over 500 pages, it would count for the Chunkster Challenge if I had started it after the challenge starts on February 1. Oh well.
Teaser Tuesdays is hosted by Should Be Reading, where you can find the official rules for this weekly event.
It does sound interesting.
ReplyDeleteHere is my teaser
Great teaser! What confessions it must have. Hope you enjoy the book.
ReplyDeleteNow that I like. I've read some William Boyd - I particularly enjoyed The Blue Afternoon - but the length rather put me off this one. Maybe one day I'll get to it!
ReplyDeleteKaye -- Thanks for the link!
ReplyDeleteBDakaBBD -- I love this book because it has lots of plot, a few big ideas, an engaging narrator/hero, and interesting historical information. I love a good yarn, and this is it.
FF -- I will have to find The Blue Afternoon. I want to read all his books, but I haven't come across that one yet. This one if long, but it reads very fast -- thoroughly absorbing.
This one sounds like a fun read - but a little long for me, since I'm the world's slowest reader. Great teaser, though!
ReplyDeleteHere's mine.
Glad you're liking it! My teaser is at The Crowded Leaf.
ReplyDeleteExcellent teaser this week. Looks like an interesting book :)
ReplyDeleteI am re-reading Watership Down by Richard Adams this week. You can find my teaser here.
