Like I mentioned the other day, Sometimes a Great Notion has really gotten to me. I am now about halfway through and am all caught up in the life of the Stampers, the conflicting themes of loving the natural beauty they live in at the same time they try to tame it and cut it down, the family conflicts, the tortured and inadequate self-awareness -- all of it. Living in Oregon, and growing up here for the most part, makes the whole overgrown, drizzly mess of it even more poignant.
Vernon Peterson has a great essay about SAGN on Art Scatter. My mind is already in tumoil over this book; he gave me even more to mull over.
