It was a strange country again but at the end he was not lonely and, later, waking, it was still strange and no one spoke at all but it was their country now, not his nor hers, but theirs, truly, and they both knew it. In the dark with the wind blowing cool through the cabin she said, "Now you're happy and you love me."-- "The Strange Country" by Ernest Hemingway, from The Complete Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway: The Finca Vigia Edition The teaser for me is that this is the last story in the book and it is definitely tantalizing to think that I may soon, finally, finish a collection of short stories that I started almost 30 years ago! I read my first Hemingway short story -- "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber" -- when I was a Freshman in high school. In fits and starts since then I have been working my way through the rest. The end is finally in sight. Teaser Tuesdays is hosted by Should Be Reading, where you can find the official rules for this weekly event.

That is an intersting one. Here is mine
ReplyDeleteThat is really cool to think you have been carrying this book around for that long, picking it up here and there - to fit a mood or fill a need. Papa Hemingway must feel like a big part of your life by now!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful teaser - so Hemingway. Congrats on being close to the finish line. If you had to pick someone to spend 30 yrs with, can't go wrong with Hemingway!
ReplyDeleteOh, you reminded me how much I love his writing.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! After reading your teaser, I thought what beautiful words. Odd, I've never thought of Ernest Hemmingway's words as beautiful just abrupt, precise, simple and quick. Maybe I need to read his short stories.

Please tell me you have picked up your reward. You're the last person. :)
Sorry Tea -- I click on the Kreativ Blogger award button on your blog, but all I get is an error message.
ReplyDeleteInteresting teaser. I want to revist Hemmingway again. I've only read the Sun Also Rises and really enjoyed it.
ReplyDelete30 years, one book. Wow.
