Opening Sentence of the Day: Underworld

. "He speaks in your voice, American, and there's a shine in his eye that's halfway hopeful." -- Underworld by Don DiLillo. And we are off on an 850+ page meandering, at least a third of which I don't understand, a third I don't care about, and a third I enjoy. I just don't think I'm cut out to be a DiLillo fan. .

  1. I have a friend who read this recently. She said is was a bear to get through, but ulitmately she liked even though it made her despressed. I have read no DeLillo yet, but I have White Noise here and Falling Man on the Very Soon list.

  2. I'm about halfway through it so far and I find it disconcerting. It is all mixed up in time, with lots of characters and not much of a plot. It is making me have disturbing dreams.
