"We are living in strange times."
-- from the author's Introduction, Blue Planet in Green Shackles by Václav Klaus.
"For quite some time, I have been speaking and writing about the environment in a rather unsystematic way."
--Chapter 1, Blue Planet.
Václav Klaus is the President of the Czech Republic, a former Prime Minister of the country, and an economist by training and profession. His perspective on climate issues is fascinating.
This is my "green" pick for the Colorful Reading Challenge.

Hello! I'm writing to let you know that you have been nominated for a Book Blogger Appreciation Week Award for Best Literary Fiction Blog. Please email me ASAP at elischulenburg@gmail.com for more information on your nomination. (FYI - the deadline is Friday, August 21.) Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI think I'd put these opening sentences in the "teaser" column. Just reading them makes me want to find the book and read it, even though I don't actually know Klaus' views on environmental issues. The mark of fairly effective opening sentences, I suppose...
ReplyDeleteThat is a great first line for a book. It immediately captures your attention and is mysterious enough to make you continue reading.
ReplyDeleteEli -- Thanks for the heads up! I'll email you.
ReplyDeleteAAC & Rebecca -- Yes, those are good opening lines. It's a fascinating book, because he has quite a different vantage point from which to view the issues. Very interesting.
