I have never read any of Potok's books, but I gather that he is the most popular author I had never heard of. Every time I mention that I am reading Davita's Harp for Book Club, people tell me how much they love his books.
But at least one Book Club member was disappointed by the opener -- let down that it did not include any of Art Scatter's favorite midgets or elephants.

Opening Sentence of the Day: Davita's Harp

ReplyDeleteImpressive offer above! Someone knows talent and a good critical eye when they read it. Perhaps the elephant reference reeled it in. You think you might have to quit your day job? Years of schooling and bar exams toppled by a pachyderm?
I haven't read any of Potok's books either I'll probably get round to it one of these days.
ReplyDeleteIn answer to your question about The Historian, I have never read any vampire books and like you wasn't really interested but it was a group read for April, I'm a bit behind. I'm about halfway through and enjoying it so far, I think because it's more about the mystery and historical research.
I was at a get-together the other night and mentioned Potok's book ... I'm with you, he's the most popular author we've never heard of. But apparently just the two of us, based on the rave reviews at the party.
