Christmas Thought of the Day

Thanksgiving is the gateway to Christmas, so my favorite time of the year has now officially started! Time for some thematic blogging.
Of course, Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol is a long-standing tradition. I have it and his other "Christmas Stories" ready to go on my iPod, since I am in a Dickens mood lately.
But now I am going to add The Man Who Invented Christmas by Les Standiford to my holiday reading list, thanks to a great review by Ruth Douillette over on the Internet Review of Books. Standiford has written a mini-biography of Dickens, focusing on the circumstances surrounding Dickens's self-publication of A Christmas Carol. Sounds great!

  1. I read "Christmas Carol" when I was in middle school, and don't really remember much of it. I should probably reread it this break, lol. I don't think I understood it very well at the time anyway, and it'll be a nice way to recover from the semester.

    BTW, I'm AA1986 on LT. :)

  2. Hey there! I don't think you'll be disappointed. The backstory to "Carol" is fascinating, and I found the publishing process in those days particularly interesting.

    Enjoy!

  3. I reread Christmas Carol every year! I love it. But I've never read his other Christmas stories until this year. Just finished Cricket and am starting The Chimes.
